Navigating the World of Work
This interactive tool, inspired by the CareerTech Challenge, highlights how digital tools could support workers transitioning into new jobs, particularly as the way we work changes with the increase in automation and the long-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
CareerTech Challenge innovators have designed and tested digital platforms to support workers during these key transitional moments and beyond, creating a resilient and fulfilled workforce.
Explore our three stories and their hotspots, to see how the innovations support workers to make these changes.
Transferring existing skills and building core skills
David, 47, is an administration assistant and wants to know how he can transfer his existing skills to a more secure role. He also wants to consolidate core workplace skills to help him develop and grow.
David can use our platforms to understand his current skill set and how he can use these skills successfully in different roles. Our platforms can also provide training on core skills to support him in his transition.
Transferring existing skills
Workers in at-risk jobs are likely to have skills that are needed in other, more secure, jobs. Matching a worker’s current skills to a different job could offer a new and more resilient career path without the need for significant retraining or upskilling. The challenge for workers is being able to identify what these skills are, and how they can be applied to other jobs that might be quite different. Innovators helping workers do this:
Developing core skills
A worker’s confidence in their own ability is key to successfully navigating the changing labour market. Building core skills can aid this, and broaden the range of roles that a worker might feel able to apply for. Core skills is a broad term and could include anything from working on basic literacy skills, to building on existing mathematical ability. Innovators offering core skills training:
